Description
Wegovy is a once-a-week injection that is clinically proven to aid diabetes and weight loss. The drug semaglutide significantly reduced symptoms and improved quality of life in people with obesity.
The pre-filled injection pens are manufactured by Novo Nordisk – the same manufacturer of other weight loss injections including Saxenda and Ozempic.
How Does Wegovy Work?
Wegovy’s active ingredient – semaglutide – is a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) analog.
It increases the production of insulin – a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. Semaglutide also delays your stomach from emptying, leaving you feeling fuller for longer and suppressing your appetite.
Semaglutide can also prevent cardiovascular events, such as heart disease and stroke, in people with type-2 diabetes.
Wegovy must be taken alongside a healthy, low-calorie diet and regular exercise.
How much weight can I lose on Wegovy?
According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), adults taking Wegovy lost 12% of their body weight on average.
How long does Wegovy take to work?
Determining how long Wegovy will take to work for you is difficult. This is simply due to everyone’s body being different and responding to medicines differently.
How Do I Use Wegovy?
Wegovy is a self-administered subcutaneous injection. The pens contain a small concealed needle that injects the medicine just below the skin.
Each Wegovy pen contains a single dose of semaglutide and a needle, so you don’t need to worry about fixing arrows to the pen or dialing in the correct dosage. Simply remove the cap and press the pen against your skin to administer the injection.
Once you use the pen to deliver your weekly dose, you discard the whole pen away. The needle will be covered once the injection has been administered so that you don’t accidentally prick yourself.
Before you use Wegovy, check the solution inside the pen to ensure that it is clear and colorless. There is a small window on the side of the pen through which you can inspect the solution.
If the solution is cloudy, discolored, or contains particulates, do not use the pen. Dispose of the pen safely in a sharps bin and use a new pen.
You can administer Wegovy at any time of day, but you should aim to take it on the same day every week.
